Sean Fitzgerald is a Professional Geologist and microscopist with more than 30 years of expertise in the study of asbestos, respirable silica, and heavy metals. His work centers on understanding the interrelationship of these materials?whether occurring naturally or processed by humans?and their potential health impacts. Alongside his scientific research, he has also managed and expanded environmental laboratories and businesses. Over the course of his career, Mr. Fitzgerald has served as a remediation site inspector, expert analyst, regional manager, field geologist, and laboratory director, while also holding executive positions including Vice President of Business Development and President of environmental firms across the United States. His research has concentrated on asbestos fibers in various contexts, including soils, talc, brake materials, household products, and naturally occurring deposits. He has also advanced methodologies in releasability testing and lung tissue analysis. Notably, his landmark investigations revealed the presence of asbestos, respirable silica, and toxic metals such as lead and mercury in consumer products including children?s toys, crayons, and cosmetics. Mr. Fitzgerald is also recognized internationally as an adviser on asbestos-related issues, having provided expertise in Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
