Ms. Ruth Muia is a Director, Nursing Services in the Ministry of Health, Kenya. She is currently holding the position of Community Lead for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) Prevention and Control Services, in the Division of Cancer and NCDS Prevention and Control Services. She has served as Ag Director, Cancer Prevention and Control Directorate at the National Cancer Institute of Kenya and as a National Reproductive Heath Training Coordinator for MoH in Kenya as well as a National Palliative care Training Coordinator with the Nairobi Hospice. She has served as a Nurse educator/lecturer at Clive Irven School of Nursing as well as a Standards Officer in the Nursing Council of Kenya in the recent past. Ruth Muia has a wide experience in Health Policy Formulation, Public Health Research,Health Project Management, Curriculum Analyst, Training, Clinical practice, Mentorship and Regulation for Nursing and Midwifery practice and education. She has contributed immensely in health program management especially in Sexual, Reproductive Health & Rights; Cancer prevention and Control to include Palliative Care in Kenya. Among others, Ruth holds a Bachelors degree in Nursing Sciences from the University of Nairobi; a Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Dundee, Scotland-UK; A Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights from Lunds University in Sweden. She holds Kenya School of Government Certificates in Senior Management Course and Strategic Leadership & Development program as well as Leadership and management Certificate from the University of Washington. Currently, Ruth is pursuing a PhD at the University of Nairobi, with a focus to Health Systems Strengthening with MSc. Public Health at the Kenyatta University (On-going). She is the Chairman of the Midwives Association of Kenya (MAK), Nairobi branch; An active member of Oncology Nursing Society-Kenya (ONS-K) and also a member of Kenya Society for Haematologists and Oncologists (KESHO).
